EZTV Torrent Fetcher

I have created a script that fetches the torrents you specify from EZTV.

It's hosted here and is Linux only currently. If you want to rewrite the bash script so it works on Windows be my guest.

Configuration is done inside the script, read the README file and it should explain everything.

I did this because I'm lazy and wanted to learn a bit of Python.

Enjoy!

Move over Foobar2000

I thought I was really happy with Foobar2000, and to be fair I was. The only annoyance I ever got was that you had to press ctrl + f to search for a song. In Rhythmbox I always just switched and started typing.

Well I decided to try out this media player because I liked the look of the interface. It matched the windows theme better than Foobar2000.

This other media player is called "Billy" and has a lovely simple interface.

This is how I have it configured to look.

My top list of features for this player would be:

6: Low RAM usage (Currently at 3.6MB)
5: Instant switching between songs
4: Portable, just copy and go
3: Really fast to add my directory
2: Keeps itself up to date
1: Search just by starting to type

You can grab yourself a copy here.

I recommend the beta version because it supports global hotkeys.

Quick fix of the blog and online chess!

I have added an online chess game you can click on the right under 'Links' but you need to talk to me first to get an account.

I have also fixed some cookie troubles. Read on for how.

Ok it seems my webhost likes doing funny things that ruins my cookies or something because I was having trouble logging in.

I have fixed it by making it save it to a directory rather than keeping it in memory or whatever it was doing before.

I got the idea to do that from the Online Chess Club session.php file.

If your server uses load balancing or anything that causes session variables to be mixed up you can provide a fixed location (physical directory) here.

session_save_path( "/some/where/tmp" );

So I started digging around the Simple PHP Blog php files and found a "session_save_path" in '/scripts/sb_functions.php' on line 84 and set it too a tmp directory I created.

And that is how I was able to stay logged in a post this and fix my logging in problem with the Online Chess Club program.

Ultimate Media Playing Solution

As my title suggests, I have setup a media player on windows that I am actually happy with. It is a combination of MPUI and MPlayer but with a decent config file that allows it to work even with aero.

You can download a premade .7z here.

Alternatively if you want the latest versions you can get MPUI and a version of MPlayer compiled from svn for windows so that it has proper ass support and then use my config.

To put these together just extract them into the same directory and copy my config into the mplayer folder inside that directory.

Now, when you first run MPUI it will be in another language. To fix that follow the instructions in this picture.

Then to make that stick go Tools -> Options and then click Save.

That's it! When you want to open a video with it, just right click and 'Open With' and select MPUI.exe and if you want, set it to always open with it.

When you first run it, it will appear to be doing nothing but it is actually caching all your fonts so be patient. Don't worry, it only does that the first time you open it.

New Hosting

Ok, I have now moved the website off of my horrible home connection. So hopefully these people will have a much better uptime than me, which really shouldn't be a challenge.

Here's to hoping that this all goes well and that I don't have to change host again!

Spotify

The new music sensation, or at least it should be.

This is a program that streams music to you, they have a very large collection. Although the interface is very OSX like and AllSnap doesn't make it snap I think it is a very nice progam. It also seems to have quite a low network usage too.

I used this link to make an account because the free service isn't provided to Australia. It only took a minute and then I was up and playing music!

Dropbox!

I'm trying out this cool program I found called Dropbox. It's a file hosting site that gives you a free 2GB drive.

I'm even going to try and use it for my image hosting so my connection isn't as noticeably to the user.

There is a client for the big 3, Linux, Windows, and OSX so no matter what you have no excuse to not give it a try. Even if you don't have one of those you can still use the web interface so you don't even need the program!

Fixed!

The post you are reading has been typed on my Saitek Eclipse II which has survived the wash and I fixed the space bar.

Seems that the metal bar that spreads the pressure out evenly over the key had become dislodged. A simple fix is to just remove the space bar and put it back in. Though I only found that out after reading online that I had to remove the back plate to get it off, but ahwell, it gave me reason to wash it and make it as good as new.

My Keyboard

I am currently in the process of fixing my Saitek Eclipse II. The problem was that the space bar didn't pop up on the right hand side anymore. Also it was filthy!

It is currently drying on the sink. The problem apparently was that the little metal bar that holds up the space bar on the sides had become dislodged and thus not spreading the pressure at all. The reason it is drying on the sink is that it was filthy so I decided to yank every key off and wash it by hand.

I shall post back with results once it is nice and dry.
